I’m auditioning for music school at FSU and UF soon; any tips?
Lynn asked:
I will be auditioning for music school at the University of Florida on February 17th and at Florida State Universiy on the 24th. I will be either majoring in Music Education or Vocal Performance (as long as I get accepted). I will be performing 2 Italian pieces, an English folk song, and a short french piece. I’ve never done this before. Can anyone tell me what to expect or give me any tips? It would be very much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Good luck; and Have Fun!!!!
Practice, Practice, practice, make it perfect. Make sure you have style.
In order to perform a successful audition, you must prepare BEYOND what you think you need to. Auditions make people nervous, and only extensive practice allows the body something to rely upon.
There are, however, a few things you can do to increase your potential:
1 - GET A GOOD NIGHT’S REST: Sleeping well in the week prior to the audition means your body will be in prime condition to deal with the nerves on audition day.
2 - Take 2 Tylenol, and eat 1 Banana about 90 minutes before the audition. The natural beta blockers in the fruit plus some wonders of the pills will slow your heart rate and allow you to focus.
3 - On the morning of the audition, only do a good warm up and a quick run-through of your program. Do not worry about minor mistakes in warming up and DO NOT make the audition day a full practice session. It will totally mess with your confidence!
4 - Remember to have fun! The reason most musicians do it is because we LOVE it (who would subject themselves to this lifestyle if they didn’t?). Convey your passion to the panel and you’ll be fine.
