What are some good colleges with Marine Biology?

sweetndunique2 asked:

Me and my fiancee are planning to go to the same college so it has to have a REALLY good French Horn-Music performance/ Vocal-education program. I am also intending to do Instrmental-Music Education.
It would be nice if it is up north to.

Good luck staying with a fiancee in college. I managed one year. Not that my advice would count, but I would NEVER make decisions based on a man at your age.

University of New Hampshire has a fantastic marine program. So do heaps of the CA state schools, UNC, USC, UHawaii, etc. As for music and marine biology… I think you’d to better to look for big universities in big cities that have conservatories in the same geographic location. Music tends to be tough to find a solid professional program in in the smaller liberal arts schools. For that matter, so does marine bio. (At least in my experience most, though not all, of my contacts seem to have been at bigger state universities rather than little schools.) Maybe go overseas?

    The top colleges are definitely:
    UC Santa Barbara
    UC San Diego
    University of Hawaii
    University of the Virgin Islands
    UC Santa Cruz
    and Stanford
Probably the most affordable are going to be UCSB and UCSD if you live in-state. Otherwise, plain tuition is going to run you about 14K. However, both of these schools have some of the best marine biology programs in the country and are definitely worth your time and interest in their programs :)

University of Maine in Orono, Maine
small school - about 12,000 undergrads, nice open campus, great professors

I’m in the marine biology program and it’s awesome! there’s about 600-700 undergrad students in the program so marine bio classes are usually about 40 people, which is nice. The labs are really hands on and there’s also an opportunity for a Semester At Sea in southern Maine where you study coastal life and maritime history. we also get a ton of federal and state funding to research the Gulf of Maine. we also just started a Marine Science Club and are starting to plan field trips all over New england and canada.
The music program up here is also amazing. i play the Fr. Horn as well so i can vouch for the many different brass ensembles that perform here and tour all over New England during the school year. the education program is also very well known across New England and the vocal program is phenomenal. There are probably over a dozen different vocal groups including the Maine Steiners, which has been around since the 1920s i think.
and Maine is definitely “up north” is you like snow!
