Some of the best include: Juilliard, Boston University, University of Cincinnatti (College Conservatory of Music), NYU (Tisch), Indiana U, Oberlin, New England Conservatory, Curtis Institute, Eastman, Peabody. And there are lots of other good ones as well, including North Carolina School of the Art, Boston Conservatory, Mannes, Manhattan School of Music, U Miami, Berklee College of Music (for contemporary), and possibly even your home state’s better public universities. For example, for music ed specifically, Illinois State University has a enviable placement rate. Something like 90% of their grades get jobs as music teachers. So look at the public unis in your home state. Good value, high impact.

If you are looking for Music Education programs there are many options. The small colleges often offer excellent BSEd training for music education, and if it is a state school you come out of your 4 years with much less debt upon graduation. If you want a top tier Music Education program, these can often depend on what you wish to major in. (i.e. your major instrument, voice, piano studies, elementary music teaching, general music, high school bands, etc) Look into the specific professors at the program. Some of the top Music Education schools have excellent music performance programs, and excellent Education colleges, and include; Temple University, Indiana University, Eastman, University of Connecticut, University of Cincinnati, Ohio State University, and Oklahoma University.
